How to Avoid Common Moving Mistakes

If you have sold your home recently and are in the process of moving then there are lots of things you need to consider. Before you actually get to your new home you need to sort out your current one and get all your belongings packed up and moved.

Moving to a new home can be tricky at the best of times, especially if you don’t know the area very well and what it has to offer. Check out this page for an amazing location with lots to do and see.

Below is a list of common mistakes that people make when moving house. Don’t fall into the same pit of despair.

Not Making A List

Making a list of all the chores that need doing by a certain date will help you out no end. You could have a reminder placed on the wall or fridge so that each time you see it you will remember. It can be tricky remembering all the things you need to do. There will be packing and fixing up the house before you move out.

If you have people helping you with the move it will be helpful for them to see the list as well so everyone is on the same page.

Leaving It To The Last Minute

It is essential that you don’t leave your packing up till the last minute. This will leave you feeling panicked and rushed when there is no need for it. You have plenty of time and notice to pack up your belongings as your move-out/in date is set weeks or months beforehand.

It can be a daunting prospect packing up your life into boxes and looking at them every time you walk past. Once it’s done you will feel accomplished and ready to start your new adventure. If you do little bits at a time then there won’t seem like so much to do when the time comes to pack the essentials.

Remember to leave out things that you will need while you are still residing in your old property. Clothes and kitchen utensils to name a couple.

Doing It Alone

Don’t try and do everything on your own. Accept help when it is offered or ask for it if you need it. Moving house is one of the most stressful things you can do, especially if you are moving with your whole family. Get a whole group together and allocate everyone a room. Tell them what you want packing or make a list with everything that needs to go and it will be done and dusted in no time at all.

You could also hire the help of a moving company to help you out with this. Some companies offer the option of packing all your stuff up safely for you, putting it onto the van, and then transporting it to your new property.

Using The Wrong Company

Finally, you need to choose wisely here as the wrong one can prove to be a disastrous choice. Have a look online at reviews or ask family and friends if they can recommend anyone. The wrong company may not have the correct insurance and safety practices in place. If your items get lost, damaged, or stolen then the company won’t have cover for this and you won’t get a replacement or refund.

The right company will make you feel at ease and feel safe in the knowledge that your belongings are being handled with care.
