What Technology is Changing Product Development?

The world is changing quickly, so quickly we sometimes don’t notice the innovations at work. That’s certainly the case with the manufacturing industry that operates on the factory floor. But this is one place that benefits substantially from new technologies and technology innovations.

In this article, we take a look at some of the technologies emerging in the manufacturing sector.

Ultrafast 3D Printing

3D printing is an exceptional technology that has made an impact on the manufacturing sector; however, it has yet to overtake the more conventional method of injection molding, which might be more expensive, but it certainly is faster, an important factor for manufacturing production.

But now, an ultrafast 3D printing method has been developed that uses a special “sintering” technique to lay on the layers of molding and fuse them together with an infra-red lamp. This process is 100 times faster than conventional 3D printing and is proving to be cheaper as well.

CMM Programming

Whether a manufacturer is developing products for the market or machines to create the goods, they require CMM programming. This is the process of tooling the machine to ensure it meets the industry and quality standards. CMM machining is available through portable cmm services.

The Hak Metrology Solutions offer a range of services to help companies develop machines or test them for quality assurance. The CMM software is innovative and flexible; it’s designed to suit the precise requirements of the industry for calibration, inspection, and modeling.

Artificial Intelligence

Jobs taken over by AI

It seems as though artificial intelligence has infiltrated society at every level, so it’s no surprise to see it also transforming the manufacturing sector. Artificial intelligence makes businesses more efficient and helps create end-products that are more suited to individual customer needs.

Take the auto industry as an example; in the past, customers had little say as to the vehicle’s specifications until after it was manufactured, which led to wastage and losses. AI can now predict the auto market more accurately and reduce losses with better resource management.

Light-Based Manufacture

At present tiny electronic parts are used in smartphones and computers and developed using robots with manipulation arms, but as these parts become smaller and more necessary, the means to develop them must also change. That’s where light-based manufacturing comes in.

Light-based manufacturing uses a special light to manipulate small component parts inside a liquid. It’s hard to imagine, but this process is cheaper and more effective. These component parts are likely to become even smaller in the future, and innovative technology is needed.

Simulation

Additive manufacturing means building an object one layer at a time; in contemporary manufacturing industries, this usually means 3D printing. But whether it’s a component part of a finished product, additive manufacturing often relies on trial and error to get the product right.

That’s about to change thanks to simulation technology. Simulation technology allows the manufacturer to test the component or material first before committing to a design that might waste materials and money. Simulation can therefore reduce costs and increase productivity.
