Tired All The Time? Here Are 6 Possible Causes

Are there worse things than being tired? Sure there are. But let’s be honest: having a sleepyhead all the time is no one’s idea of a good time. Life is just much more difficult to manage when we don’t have any energy. Plus, it can send us into something of a negative loop cycle. When we’re tired, we’re more likely to be grouchy, which means our personal relationships suffer. We’re less likely to have a healthy meal, which further impacts our health and energy levels. It’s a cycle that we have to break.

One way to do this is to identify the underlying cause of the tiredness. Once you know what that is, you’ll be able to take steps to correct it. In this blog, we’ll run through six possible reasons why you may be tired all the time.

Low-Quality Sleep

Everyone has a bad night’s sleep from time to time. But if you’re tired all the time, it could be that you’re not sleeping well more nights than not, and that is something that’ll very much impact your energy levels. However, it’s best not to fall into the trap of just believing that you’re doomed not to sleep well. There’s always something that you can do.

For example, you may look at your coffee, exercise, and technology habits. Too much caffeine in the afternoon and screen time before you hit the hay will make you alert come bedtime. Too little exercise will mean that you’re not tired. You’ll also want to look at your bedroom to ensure that it’s as conducive to rest as it should be.

Mental Health

Society is only just beginning to take mental health as seriously as it should. There are many symptoms that you’re experiencing a mental health condition, and one of them is tiredness. Depression will keep your energy levels low, for instance, while anxiety will make it difficult to fall asleep. If you’re feeling tired, it’s worthwhile checking in with yourself to see what condition your mental health is in.

If you think you could use a dose in the right direction, then fear not, there are things you can do. Talking it through with a professional, journaling, meditation, and exercise have all shown to give mental health a boost.

Underlying Conditions

Though it’s unlikely, it’s possible that your tiredness is caused by an underlying medical condition rather than something related to your lifestyle. Some conditions, such as Myasthenia Gravis, can cause high levels of fatigue.

If you’ve analyzed your lifestyle and can’t see why you might be tired, then it’ll be worthwhile getting in touch with a professional. A doctor that specializes in Myasthenia Gravis will be able to tell you whether you have that condition. If you do, then they’ll help you to manage the condition.

Lack of Movement

It can sound counterproductive to say that if you want more energy, then you need to exert energy. But it’s true. Movement will help to give you more energy. Indeed, if you’re tired in the middle of the day, then one of the best things you can do is strap on your running shoes and go for a jog. So if you’re constantly feeling tired, take a look at your exercise levels. If you’re not moving, then you’ll be much more likely to be tired. A strong body will always have more energy than one that’s not quite as active.

Plus, you’ll get many more benefits from committing to working out, including mental health benefits.

Overworked

You are not a worker drone bee. You’re a human. If you’re working too many hours, then it’ll be inevitable that you feel tired. There’s an upper limit on how long humans can concentrate before they get tired, and it’s much sooner than several hours of work! If you’re in this position, then look at making some changes. There are plenty of things you can do. For example, you could take a ten-minute break every hour or so. You could also talk to your boss to see if they would be willing to reduce your workload.

Poor Eating Habits

Finally, your tiredness could be down to the food that you eat. Remember, your meals are the fuel that gives your body energy. If the ingredients you’re using are low-quality or cause a sluggish reaction, then it’ll be best to look at changing your diet slightly. It’ll make a difference over a long-term period. It’s best to avoid over-processed food and focus on fruit, veg, and proteins.
