Does your brain feel a bit mushy these days? If it seems that you spend all of your free time scrolling, this is probably not an unfamiliar feeling. And you’re not the only one!
Although, we’re not talking about being productive here; there’s a difference between being productive and not spending all day on your phone. If you want to change things in your life, sometimes it requires locking the screen, getting up, and trying something new.
And that new thing should be fun! That’s why we’ve put together the list down below – the following activities are all great for brain health.
Have a Round of Cards with a Friend
Playing cards is great for the brain and super fun at the same time – although only when you’re playing with friends and the prize is casual, we should say! No matter what game you choose, having to stick it out and try to play the best hand is wonderful for your neural pathways. It doesn’t take much to pick up a pack of cards, but it does take time and effort for someone to master a ‘poker face’.
Take a Martial Arts Class
Martial arts are great for working out both your brain and body. You’re going to gain a very useful life skill and stay fit and active all at the same time – if your brain feels a bit mushy, this is one of the best remedies. So, check out some Krav Maga Classes or a Taekwondo session near you and see what you think! You’ll need to rely on commitment and discipline to excel in this pursuit, but if you’re willing to put the time in, you’ll go further than you thought possible.
Learn a Language
If you’re even the slightest bit interested in speaking another language, take this as your sign to finally start learning a new one. If you like to vacation in another country where the native language is different, why not start that course on an app like Duolingo? If you have a favorite fictional world with a well known conlang, you might even be able to learn this as well!
Play a Video Game
Are you a gamer? If not, turn on your PC or a console and download something to play. Video gaming is one of the most fun hobbies we can currently indulge in, but if you’ve never played before, it won’t be hard to give it a go for the first time.
After all, all games have a tutorial to follow, and you can take as much time as you need to pick up the controls. Then you can get deep into new worlds and get to know fun and interesting characters; a good game has so much to offer while still keeping things simple.
If you want to get your brain involved in new things, try out any of the activities above and see what you think. Mushy brains really aren’t any good for anyone!
